Abstract: The diploma thesis deals with the investigation of wall paintings and building archaeology of a room in the west wing of Strehla Castle. This room is located north of the well-known drinking room. In the course of the investigations and research, the function of the room and the concept of the “Tafelstube“ crystallized. The renaissance paintings are similar to those of the drinking room and are dated 1536. It is a coat of arms frieze with floral wreaths, which presents, among others, the coats of arms of the former owners of the castle, the noble family of Pflug(k). Furthermore, there are multicolored tendril paintings above the wall openings and a very fragmentary plinth design consisting of floral elements and columns. A stylistic connection to the Cranach workshop should exist. In the course of the diploma, a room-wide inventory and condition survey were carried out, a conservation and restoration concept was developed and realized on a sample area. The focus was on the oldest room designs, which can probably be classified between the 15th and 17th centuries. In addition, stylistic and art-technological evaluations of other wall paintings, including those from the Cranach workshop, have been incorporated.
