Overview:

Abstract: The brickwork of the church of the Franzikaner monastery in Berlin is partially high contaminated by hygroscopic salts.
Within this report the reasons for the high contamination by salt and pollutants are discussed.
A section of the church was chosen as a test area. After test investigation and the hand- application of an ammonium hydrogen carbonate-paste, the technique of injection-assisted compress was investigated. The content of salt contamination within the test area (2.2 m2) was reduced by about 6 kg.
The report concludes with recommendations for additional measures that can be taken in the conservation of the church
