Abstract: Microcrystalline waxes which are suitable for water repellent treatment on dense magmatic rocks are examined with regard to their possible utilizations for microorganisms as well as their suitability in combination with biocides. Microcrystalline wax coatings are either equipped with biocide or they are combined in gradual operations. In this process, I intend to find out first, if the biocides have any influence on the hydrophobic effects of the microcrystalline waxes and second, which of the coating combinations protects best against microbiological attack. Therefore, the different coating combinations are artificially weathered on granite. The evaluation and verification of the water- repellent effect of the coatings is carried out with the help of contact angle measurings and microbiological colonization tests.
