The `Goldaltar` of Liebfrauenkirche in Oberwesel, dating about 1330 is of the most important altar pieces of the 14th century because of its artistic quality, the important age, but especially because of its theological meaning. A thoroughly technological investigation of the painted wings is the main component of the paper. The investigation covers examination of the paint structure, documentation of preservation and a summary of the conservation history.
