Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: This thesis is dealing with elastic threads and fibres in clothing. First of all there is a closer look on their materials and their use in clothing. The main part is on rubber threads made of natural and synthetic rubber and on polyurethane elastomeric fibres. The important aspects concerning the compound and production of the threads and fibres are shown. Furthermore different factors are discussed, which can affect the specific materials and influence ageing and deterioration. The resulting problems in care and handling of those objects in museum collections are described. Therefore, possible solutions and recommendations for handling, storage and presentation in exhibitions are presented.
