Overview:

Abstract: The main subject of this thesis is the cleaning of paper using ultrasound. The techniques of creating and cleaning with ultrasound will be elaborated and particular attention will be paid to the cavitation phenomenon. Subsequently various paper samples will be treated in an ultrasound bath using different cleaning agents and the results will be analysed. The effectiveness of the cleaning methods will be determined through the white standard measurements. The behaviour of the colouring pigments in the ultrasound bath will also be examined. In the conclusion of the experiments historical objects will be cleaned in the ultrasound bath.
