Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The creation of guidelines for the handling of new textile finds covering the whole process from excavation to conservation, as well as a general conservation concept enables to apply a standardized treatment for the complete textile collection for the first time in its 150 years of existence. Therefore, a comprehensive condition report was drawn up and converted into a database. Following this, the textiles were divided into groups, according to their state of preservation. The problems of salt on these archaeological textiles as well as the appropriate cleaning method are being discussed. A new storage concept and recommendations for exhibitions are being proposed.
