Elisabeth Ghaffari: The historic polychromy of the baroque fountains in the Schönbrunn park and possible methods of reconstruction Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: Due to dramatic weathering and neglect of conservation in the past the stone surfaces of the fountains in the park Schönbrunn do not correspond with their original appearance any more. By comprehensive research it was possible to demonstrate the former design concept of the fountain surfaces: White adornment was put in contrast with the natural stone base of marble and limestone from St. Margarethen with imitations of white edging. For a possible new edging different types of paint systems where chosen which where tested according to their esthetical and physical qualities. The first test of reconstruction was carried out at one of the ≥Ehrenhof-Fountains≈ afterwards.
