Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: Schweinfurt Green was one of the most important green arsenic colours of the 19th century. Because of its outstanding and brilliant emerald colouring its use was versatile. This diploma thesis is based on fourteen historical samples, one of which was produced by the company SATTLER, originating from the early years 1814 to 1819. Furthermore, the thesis is based on an unpublished and newly discovered book for colour preparations by SATTLER from
1876 / 77.
In the first part of the diploma thesis the historical background of Schweinfurt Green is analysed. This includes the different expressions used and the discovery of the colour by WILHELM SATTLER. The first part also deals with the analysis of the production methods and preparations and a survey of the different types and qualities customary in trade as well as their prices.
In the second part of the diploma thesis the fourteen samples are examined with scientific research methods (PLM, XRD, REM, Raman) regarding their composition, morphology and crystallization. The results are evaluated. Finally, the chemical and optical qualities are described.
