Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The main theme of this thesis is the development of a guideline for archaeologists for the handling of the skin and leather finds from the salt-mines of Hallstatt from excavation to storage. Methods of cleaning and conservation used so far have been researched and tested on new finds from the mines and old finds from the storage of the Museum of Natural History (NHM), Vienna. Based on these tests a concept for the handling of future finds has been devised. The influence of salt for the conservation of the objects is discussed and taken into consideration. Recommendations for the conservationally optimal storage of the fragments in the depot are made.
