Overview:

Abstract: Veneered wooden floors have high requests for conservation and restoration. They face problems to find solutions and measures for the protection in the museum. The Marcetery Floor of the oval cabinet of 1768, made by the Brothers Spindler and situated in the Neues Palais Potsdam, is the object of investigation in this diploma thesis. The wooden floor is an integral part of a set of rooms, which is supposed to open for visitors in the near future. Therefore is it necessary to prepare a concept for the conservation. There were realised and analysed a wide range for examinations about the materials, technology and the condition.
The opportunity of nondestructive test methods for onesided available objects to investigate damages and construction was treated in theory and partly in practice. That is the basis for more Analysis. The concept versions, including the care and preventive measures, afford a helpful base for the treatment of the Marcetery Floor.
