Undine Köhler: Investigations and possibilities of the removal of Blooming appearances in the case of the canvas painting "In front of the funeral hall", 1899 Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The practical section includes the documentation of the investigated painting. The visual appearance of
the painting was disturbed by white surface blooming, various canvas tears and severe surface dirt. The painting is investigated by art historical and technological means. Based on this investigation, a programme of conservation and restoration is developed. All steps of the following treatment are finally documented chronologically.
The theoretical section explores the composition of the white blooming that was found on the paint
surface. Hypothesies are developed to attempt to explain the development of blooming. In the final part of this thesis, experiments on the removal of blooming are carried out.
