Jochen Bartscht: The furnishing of the „Neue Nationalgalerie“. Survey and development of a conservation concept. Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The 1968 inaugurated Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin not only houses one of the remarkable collections of Modern Art from the 19th and 20th century, but also a furnishing designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Not only the daily use and different reworkings of the last thirty years did change the aesthetically appearance but the bad conditions also mean a serious risk for some single components. The furnishing is composed by fittet-in wall- and cupboard-elements, doors and different tables. Its constructions, materials and surface treatments are examined. An extensive catalogue of the elements is followed by the development of a concept for restauration of the original interior.
