Stefan Mai: Outdoors deposing of objects at Rheinisches Industriemuseum Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: This document is about conservation of technical objects stored outside by the Rheinische Industriemuseum (RIM), Oberhausen. It includes a brief outline of the museum’s history and of their problems of conserving technical objects outdoors. After giving a brief overview of corrossion protection, a survey on other museums solutions for outdoors storage and a bibliographical research, the document describes the development of transparent protective coatings in co-operation with Zollern-Institut, Bochum. Solutions for the outdoors storage are shown using technical objects of the RIM. Research shows that out door storage is possible only for simply structured objects. For complex objects such as machines or vehicles indoors storage must be recommended.
