Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: Berthold von Nördlingen completed the Bornhofener alterpiece in 1415. The separated wings are located in the Rheinischen Landesmuseum Bonn and in the Hessischen Landesmuseum Darmstadt. On the inner side sixteen female saints are depicted and on the outer wings scenes of the Passion of Christ are executed. A stylistic comparision with other works within the International Style indicates, that the panels are originated by Bohemian influence. The technical examination, gaining more information of the painting technique proved this theory. The robes of the saints feature unusual patterns. The artist executed the complexe textiles patterns with various techniques, e.g. sgraffito, templates, punchwork und incised lines on a Zwischgold surface.
