Zusammenfassung: The thesis paper at hand deals with the investigation of microbial growth on consolidated architectural surfaces. Literature research and miscellaneous pre- experiments defined the parameters that support microbial growth on KSE- consolidated stones.
Selected microorganisms were put on consolidated stone samples and their development was compared with microbial growth on stones without consolidation treatment. Especially fungi showed growth on the surfaces, regardless of order and timing of consolidation and application of microorganisms. Bacteria grew only in small amounts on the consolidated surfaces. All investigations were carried out in the laboratory. The test results showed that all microorganisms chosen preferred growing on untreated stones.
The ingredients of KSE do not seem to be conducive to microbial growth on architectural surfaces, as was assumed until now. Microbial growth on KSE- consolidated stones is not only dependent on the used materials, but rather has to be seen as the consequence of a specific cooperation of stone, consolidation material and surroundings, as well as the reactions which result from this.).
