Zusammenfassung: In this thesis drawings realized with dry media, vulnerable to the usual conservation
treatments in paper conservation, are summarised under the term of drawings with
vulnerable surface. Based on the pertinent literature and an experimental series the
influence of conservation treatments on drawings with vulnerable surfaces is derived,
the origin of the discrepancy and uncertainty in the field of the conservation of drawings
is clarified and a revision of the actual tendencies and recommended treatments in the
professional publications is presented. The actual tendency to minimal intervention due
to the lack of practical solutions for usual conservation treatments is contrasted with a
new approach. Based on experience in other conservation fields the volatile binder
cyclododecane is tested as a waterproofing protection agent for the pictorial layer of
drawings with vulnerable surface during aqueous conservation treatments. The
experimental series documented in the thesis lead to the development of a technique
of temporal fixation for drawings with vulnerable surfaces, the analysis of its protection
capacity and its evaluation in the context of the conservation of drawings.
