| Zusammenfassung: | The Egyptian wooden panel, decorated with mosaics (wood and bone adhered on top of a substrate), is part of the Islamic collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. These early, rare and sophisticated mosaic examples, consisting of various materials, have a very high quality of workmanship. Comprehensive technical investigations focused on the mosaic manufacture technique and the original function of the panel. A comparative study of closely related wooden panels in other museum collections was also carried out. The final thesis provides recommendations related to; the handling of old restorations, necessary protective, aesthetic conservation and restoration treatments, and installation/display criteria for the panel. |
