Zusammenfassung: During the reign of Frederick Wilhelm III in the Potsdamer city castle a series of representational rooms were built, whose wall panelling and furniture represent a pinnacle of Prussian artistic craftsmanship dating from around 1800.
Architectural /historical studies shed light on the building of the state rooms and the Etruscan Room, an artistic study of the building processes apprecitates the craftsmanship of the Potsdamer cabinet makers and sculptors of the 18 th century.
Graphic reconstructions of floors and panellings help to visualise areas of the wooden interior which had been completely destroyed in the war.
As a contribution to the research of the colour range of the veneered wallpanelling of the classical period, the reconstruction of a Boiseriefeld of the Etruscan Room shows the use of precious woods as well as the use of stained veneers and coloured putties to imitate stone-like surfaces.
