Zusammenfassung: The present paper deals with the analysis and development of a conservation concept for the sculpture fragments of the south tower at the west front of the Cologne Cathedral. There have been 26 fragments preserved which include 13 Wimpergfigürchen made of roman limestone and 13 sculpture fragments made of Weiberner Tuff. The different kinds of damage phenomena will be documented and analysed. Afterwards appropriate conservation options are going to be developed and appropriate conservation materials will be made and tested. The current state of literature research shall help to select applicable materials. In experimental series conservation mortars, injection materials, washes and adhesives are being evaluated for the tuff fragments in terms of compatibility to the primary material and specific requirements. The remains of polychrome painting on the tuff stone sculptures can be classified as an extraordinary feature. An analysis of the painting technology and a conservation concept are going to be developed in regard to the pieces of the polychromy.
