The main point of view was the condition of the photographs of the Historical Archive of the City of Cologne. After the collapse the photographs are very hardy dusty and destroyed. The main problem is the cleaning without new demages of the damageable surface of the very thin gelatinlayer. Traditional methods of dry-and wet cleaning of papers and photographs can not adapted for this problem. New experiments with ultrasonic-cleaning and airbrushbased technologies should open new proberties for cleaning the photographs. The cleaning with ultrasonic was unfortunately without practicable results. With a special modification of the airbrush-technology it will find a very practicable and low cost method to clean the photographs.
