Zusammenfassung: As part of a restoration project on a transilvanian choir stalls this paper addresses solutions for the connection of wooden supplements to historical substance.
Confronted with extremely damaged wooden substance, all measures move on the border of the capability of realization. Therefore central themes like invasivity, as well as the ethics of restoration are adressed.
In search of a connecting system between original substance and supplement, previous measures, including wooden supplements and the strengthening of the historical substance, will be reflected and evaluated. Based on this knowledge, different solutions for the gluing and reinforcement of the choir stalls are shown and appropriate methods will be chosen. These methods and materials are described and accurately checked with regard to their suitability for the use on the object. Besides, special consideration will be given to the compatibility of the original substance and supplement.
Finally, well-chosen systems are checked and evaluated with the help of practical trials.
