Zusammenfassung: The equestrian statue of Frederick the Great in the castle park of Sanssouci, which is highly overgrown with different microorganisms, is getting introduced. The cause of this overgrown is considered as weathering behavior of Carrara marble.
Based on this results a surface protection concept shall be developed, which will increase the intervals of future cleanings. For this, two strategies are pursued. With a suitable handling an equalization of the surface shall be done which will make it more difficult for microorganisms to adhere. In addition to that the fitting-out of the surface with titanium dioxide is getting examined. In case of UVA-light resulting radicals have the ability to inhibit the settlement of microorganisms.
Different structural-physical methods of analysis, microscopic examinations and the recording of the biogenic growth are helpful for the rating of the treatments.
