Zusammenfassung: Sulfates are often the reason for salt efflorescence, crusts and deterioration on historical buildings. The incorporation of sulfates are often a result of prior restoration workings including the usage of cement- or gypsum-based mortars. To avoid further damage, sulfate resistant materials should be preferred.
In this study, injection mortars were tested in their adhesion between the historical lime plaster and clay subsoil with potential sulfate burden. Three recipes containing the binders silica sol, silicic acid esters and lime were developed. In addition, the grout HSV-p of the company Tubac was in the series of experiments.
To ensure a sufficient compatibility with the historic mortar, different tests were made using the new injection mortar formulations.
The characteristics of the fresh mortar were evaluated, including properties like the line of flow, sedimentation and penetration. Measurements of the physical properties were checked by using conditioned samples.
To give some indication about a possible internal sulfate attack, a part of the samples were mixed with gypsum and stored under different conditions.
The filling of made hollow places should elucidate the binding to the clay subsoil and lime plaster.
