Zusammenfassung: The diploma thesis deals with the conservation of the portrait Queen Karoline Friederike of Bavaria (1813) by Joseph Stieler belonging to SKD.
The main damage consists of several strongly deformed canvas infringements which are combined with distant and jolted pictorial layer flakes.
The practical segment focuses on examinations and concept development to reestablish a presentable state. The conservation of canvas and painting layer takes center of the practical work.
The theoretical segment includes a comparative overview on painting technique of Joseph Stieler.
