| Zusammenfassung: | Only a few ethnographic collections can come up with objects from bird skin. In particular, there are barely clothes in the repertoire of museum exhibitions, with its production techniques given from one generation to the next generation. Related objects out of feathered bird skin are challenging the conservator with special conservation problems. In the past organic objects are often affected by insect infestation and therefore they were treated preventively with inorganic and synthetic pesticides. Their use is now widely disputed, because of the health risk for the environment. At the object Ic.191 of the National Museum Denmark are found high pesticide levels. For this reason, decontamination should be accomplished. Conventional cleaning methods appeared to be risky, so the method using liquid or supercritical CO2 was given preference. With specially prepared pigeon skins and other sample objects cleaning tests could be performed at the cleaning company Fred Buttler Copenhagen. The cleaning results showed that the decontamination of fragile objects like Ic.191 is not feasible yet. To make comparisons a similar object L.4994 was chosen. The production technique and the structure of skin and feathers of the object have been analyzed and scientific studies to the conservation status took place. Additional a damage catalog and treatment plan have been created. The practical implementation of the conservation was held to object L.4994. |
