Zusammenfassung: This work deals with the treatment of glazed ceramics which results in the elimination of surface defects in outdoor weathering. The motive is the planned renovation of a historical building in Leipzig. This structure has a versatile facade made of glazed ceramics. On the basis of a reference surface, an inventory of the existing shaped stones and documentation of the occuring damage phenomena is made. With the aid of this knowledge, requirements for a conservational and restorative supplement are determined. The usual conservational and restorative treatment of glazed ceramics is explained, and an overview of the properties as well as the ageing behaviour of the different organic polymers and inorganic-organic copolymers used for this purpose is given. This is followed by an inspection of the physical and optical properties of various naturally aged glaze supplements on selected reference surfaces of architectural ceramics in outdoor weathering. Finally, the results are explained in an evaluation which gives recommendations for the conservation and restoration for the damaged glazed ceramics in Leipzig.
