Zusammenfassung: Canvas paintings are exposed to shock and vibration while being transported. This may cause damage both to the support and the paint layers. In order to document and quantify the effects of such a transport, a series of painting reconstruction samples were exposed to real and simulated transporting conditions. Based on former studies movements were analysed with a novel type of accelerometers, logging the transport from one exhibition to the next (wall to wall) as well as simulating them on a specially designed and constructed vibration rig. Of particular interest within this context was the correlation between the parameters emission, material composition, tension and direction of immission. The support’s natural frequencies were examined by frequency response measurements. Analyses were spatially resolved by systematic measurements along an grid.
