Zusammenfassung: | The painting cycle of Saint Tertulin consists of twelve single canvas paintings. They originate from the Abbey Schlehdorf (Bavaria), which is today in the possession of the Mission‐Dominicans. The cycle was made probably in the vicinity of the monastery around 1780. The large‐sized paintings are placed within moulded ornamental frames, which are crowned by carved, gilded and partly polychromed top pieces with painted medallions. Different positions of the sun are depicted on the above‐mentioned medallions. In the context of the diploma thesis, a complete inventory including iconographical and historical aspects of the cycle was made. The painting "Visitation of Saint Tertulin" was chosen for a detailed damage analysis and for the development of a conservation and treatment concept with a subsequent sample area because it was the most severely damaged of all paintings. The treatment concept devised considering the conservation problems of the complete cycle. |
