Zusammenfassung: | Museum collections are increasingly reporting the occurrence of mould infestations, but data on this matter is scarce. A survey among museum stakeholders in Austria provides an insight into the current situation regarding climate monitoring, mould infestation, its causes and how it is dealt with, as well as possible influences of climate change. Furthermore, based on the example of an infestation in the painting collection of the museumkrems, possibilities for treatment and prevention are discussed. Especially for paintings and other polychrome objects, chemical and physical disinfection measures are often not an option. Therefore, the focus lies on the efficacy of dry surface cleaning alone. Three methods are tested on originals as well as painting mock-ups, especially with regard to cleaning performance and prevention of further infestation: vacuuming, with and without an additional cleaning step using PU or latex sponges. The cleaning results are evaluated visually, using ATP/AMP measurements and cultivation techniques. |
