The altarpiece of the Saint Elisabeth Church, Hude
|
|
Zusammenfassung: | The altarpiece from the Saint Elisabeth Church in Hude is dated around 1300. It is one of the oldest preserved carved objects in the northern part of Lower Saxony. Live and passion of Christ is told in 24 rectangular fields. The art historical contemplation and the technological examination give a contribution to the work and paint techniques of the early 14th century. The partially bad condition of the altarpiece today is mainly due to the climatic situation in the church. After having examined the altarpiece, various conservation concepts are presented. Furthermore, ideas for a new presentation are drawn up. Finally, the research is discussed within the context of previous researches of the Hude altarpiece. |
