Sonja Bretschneider: The epitaph painting of Christian Gottlieb Milich von Baarsdorf († 1725) from Nikolai Church in Görlitz – Konservation of an oil painting on corroded copper support damaged by heat / Evaluation of suitable acrylate polymers for consolidation of oil paintings on copper back

Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: This diploma thesis deals with the conservation of an epitaph painting in oil on an arched copper support (first half 18th century).
The corrosion of copper and heat damage lead to serious reduced adhesion and deformation of the paint layer. Furthermore the painting is partly covered by a paper facing. Major emphases of concept development and execution of measures were to remove the paper facing and evaluate a suitable consolidant to secure the degraded paint layer on the painting support.
