Overview:

Abstract: The diploma thesis is about the restoration of two mural paintings in the church ´´St. Johann im Felde´´ (Knittelfeld, Styria): a painted epitaph in Renaissance style of 1614 and an older painting in Gothic style from 1510, which shows an apostle cross; both secco paintings in lime.
The paintings had been recovered and already restored during an extensive restoration of the inner of the church in 1979. In the restoration that has now been carried out, damage is partially treated as a loss of the paint layer and local separation of Intonacco and Arriccio. The main focus is on the presentation of the paintings, which was not satisfactory. Therefore, interventions should be as minimal as possible and should not affect the original substance if it is not necessary.
