Overview:

Abstract: The chapel of Türnich castle, laying in the bay „rheinische Bucht“, is a treasure of historicist synthesis of the arts. Franz Guillery painted the wall paintings from 1895 until 1897, which belong to the rich decor of the chapel. The oil painting in the calotte of the apse is painted on copper, so the copper support has the function of a part of the architecture and makes the painting a special type of wall painting. In this diploma thesis this painting on copper was technologically investigated, construction and current state described. The climatic conditions seen as the cause for the present damages were analysed and possibilities for the conservation recommended.
