Abstract: This bachelor thesis is a teamwork in cooperation with the Landesmuseum Hannover. It presents a concept to conserve and restore two so called Malanggan figures from Papua New Guinea. First of all there is a summary of the widespread oceanic culture. This is the basis for the following discussion about the ethics in conservation and restoration. Besides the cultural characteristics, european guides are used to find a fitting treatment option for those objects. With profound technological analysis a concept about specific procedures was acquired. Based on interviews with experts and relevant literature an extensive presentation of the Malanggan art can be offered.
