Abstract: This Diploma thesis deals with an oval Portrait of Charlotte Georgine duchess of Sachsen-Hildburghausen, part of the Lindenau-Museum in Altenburg. The portrait is lined on a painted textile support. The deformed paint layer was retouched and varnished. Black stains affecting negatively the appearance. The aim is the examination, conservation and restoration in regard to a potential exhibition. The main measure consists in the removal of retouchings and recent varnishes.
The theoretical part compares the painting technique with written sources.
