Georg Ihlenfeld: Examination and restauration of the painting “Portrait of the holy Mary Magdalene and two cherubs” of an unknown artist back

Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: This thesis involves the examination of the undated painting “Portrait of Mary Magdalene and two cherubs” of an unknown artist and its restauration. An art-historical classification of the composition and a pigment-analysis were able to narrow down the time frame of the paintings origin. The removal of paint-layer-covering rework, of an improperly executed early restauration, was completed during this thesis. Finally measures of conservation and restoration were carried out to achieve an aesthetically pleasing picture, which ensures a secure condition.
