| Abstract: | The present diploma‐thesis deals with the restoration of the panel "Heiliger mit Engel". Conservation measures, such as consolidation and cleaning already took place in the practical term. In the course of the thesis further scientific investigations were accomplished, mainly concerning the optical densities in the upper part of the illustration. It is about white lead that has converted into lead sulphide. The attempt to transform it again remained unsuccessful. Thus a removal was realised in the course of the restoration instead. Moreover, conservational and aesthetically disturbing retouchings and fillers were removed. Subsequently, a closure of the defects was carried out while using fillers and executing a retouching as an example. Finally there have been some considerations concerning the presentation of the object in a cartouche. While comparing different frameworks, which have been developed in the time of origin of the object, a historically and aesthetically fitting frame profile could be chosen. In a sample area possibilities of different coloured compositions were shown.
