Abstract: | The four paintings with family coats of arms, originally placed in the ancient „Rats‐Trinkstube” of the town hall of Würzburg, were exhibited in the „Kelterhalle” of the Museum of Main‐Franconia of Würzburg. The family coats of arms of the councillors of Würzburg are illustrated on these paintings which were made on canvas. Having investigated technologically and having studied scientifically in the seventh semester, findings of damage, accompanied by diagrams illustrating the locations of the damage as well as an analysis of its causes were compiled. Within the scope of the dissertation a method concept of further conservation and a method concept of restoration were developed taking into consideration the ancient state of the work and the climatically difficult condition in the „Kelterhalle”. Furthermore, measures of conservation and restoration as an exemplar of restoration were implemented on one of the four paintings. |
