Abstract: | During the last 15 years, there has been an enormous improvement dealing with the strategies for pollution control into museum environments. In order to deal with previous insufficient monitoring strategies for gaseous pollutants in museums and to assess the potential risk of pollutants on cultural assets, special measuring methods have been developed to detect the exposure-effect in the environment. This project analysed the application of the recently developed measuring system »MUSECORR« in comparison to the non-commercial Oddy Test under normal conditions to a museum from an ecological and conservational point of view. The both corrosion measurement methods were applied to selected exhibition areas located in the GRASSI museum for ethnology in Leipzig. The corrosive environmental conditions were analysed and interpreted over a period of six months, taking in consideration the climatic and laboratory reference measurements as well as the influencing factors. Once having the results and combining them, an individual pollution control strategy and a conservational comparison of the two corrosion measurement systems were carried out. The results after comparing both systems also helped to provide a precise recommendation for the different needs of a museum. |
