Abstract: | The present thesis examines the grand staircase (1771) of the castle of Harmannsdorf (Lower Austria), made of zogelsdorfer calcarenite. A material-and-condition survey indicated that the main damage phenomena of structural damage is caused by repeated freeze-and-thaw cycles. Therefore the main emphasis during the elaboration of a consevation concept was put on reconstruction mortars for porous limestones exposed to freezing weather conditions. Test series shall indicate the waterspecific properties as well as the frost resistence of different mortars that have already been used successfully in practice. The results show differences between utilised materials by themselves as well as in interaction with zogelsdorfer calcarenite and illustrate the importance of tailoring materials to individual objects. |
