Abstract: Abstract
The aim of this bachelor thesis is the assessment of the production technique and condition of a stone sculpture on the west façade of the now Coptic Orthodox monastery in Brenkhausen (Höxter). The more then life-size sculpture of Saint Scholastica is one of four portal sculptures of the former Benedictine monastery.
On the basis of a photographic documentation, research, as well as a phenomenological and scientific investigation, the historical context, the production technique and condition of the sculpture will be assessed and documented. The manufacturing process of the stone sculpture and the structure of stratigraphy of the he fragmentary previous polychromy will be examined. For the assessment of the condition, the results of the examinations and analyses are evaluated and the results summarized.
