Abstract: Although the false colour infrared is well known in conservation for more than 30 years, its application is still not used like other obligatory techniques to examine and record the condition of a painting. Therefore the amount of 56 paintings from the depot - collection of the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum – Fondation Corboud, Cologne, was examined and recorded with a digital camera system. To get the results into statistic relation, a database was developed. Some exemplary results are presented to show how helpful this technique can be for the recording of paintings` conditions. In this context the different methods and applications to get false colour infrared pictures are presented as well.
