Overview:

Abstract: The topic of this thesis is a roman lime plaster floor. Although these floors are commonly found, they are seldom appreciated. The lime plaster floor in burial chamber II of a late roman period in the monument by Nehren is presented as a case study. The materials and technology used in this floor´s construction are researched. Due to the floor being exposed to damage from weathering and vandalism, this paper discusses possible conservation and preservation methods. Focus is placed on the options of reburial and shelter construction. The research suggests that long term conservation of the floor is dependent on a combination of both materials and preventive conservation. In light of this a proposal is presented for this specific roman lime plaster floor.
