This dissertation contributes to the research and understanding of the architectural polychromy of the choir of Cologne Cathedral. Following an initial literature research a systematic survey was undertaken using optical methods to investigate earlier decorative schemes. An important aspect of the study was the paint sampling and analysis of surviving polychromy remains, with reference to building history.
