Abstract: | The wallpanelling in the garden parlour of Malberg castle – Full description and conservation concept at the example of the southeastwall The wallpanelling in the garden parlour of Malberg castle is a significant historico-cultural witness of the 18th century. Especially the engraving of the marquetry, filled with coulored, wax-bound pastes, represents a special characteristic of the decoration of wooden surfaces. This thesis first of all contains a full description of the panelling taking into account earlier works of restoration and the relevant background conditions. The complex questions resulting herefrom are then discussed in the conservation concept. As the cleaning of the surface and the completion of the coating can be considered as particularly difficult, the elaborated recommendations are supported by practical tests. Finally various preventive measures are presented which not only contribute to the improvement of the framework conditions, but also take into consideration the historical architecture as well as the conception of the interior. |
