Abstract: A group of five iron objects, excavated in April 2004, in Wodarg/Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is dated in the 11th to 14th century. These objects should be conserved. The main aim of conservation of archaeological iron objects is to inhibit further corrosion processes and to stabilise the corrosion products. In the presence of chloride and sulphate ions in connection with humidity and oxygen the corrosion is accelerated. Two comparative test series should give clues about the effectiveness of desalination and the effectiveness of determination of chloride and sulphate ion removal. The results should be part of the conservation concept and carried out on the five iron objects.
