Abstract: | This work deals with the victorian paintings of the All Saints Church in Cambridge, UK, built in between 1862 and 1864 by George Frederick Bodley. The interior is decorated in the style of Willam Morris’ Arts and Crafts movement. In sucession the art history of the wall paintings and the technology employed to execute them were investigated. Subsequently, I conducted a survey of the paintings. Light and electronmicroscopy allowed for a clarification of the originality of the paintings and the most important sources of damage to them. The work concludes with an analysis of the factors contributing to the damage and a concept for conservation and restoration of the wall paintings. |
