| Zusammenfassung: | Initially created for the 49. Biennale in Venice, Italy, in 2001, the MAK – Austrian Museum of Applied Arts / Contemporary Art, in Vienna, acquired the installation “Not Everyone Will be Taken Into the Future” as a permanent loan in 2002. The installation was exhibited at the MAK Tower. It is composed of a wooden and a metal construction, a scrolling text display as well as of nine acrylic paintings which form the theoretical and practical focus of this diploma thesis. A water damage in 2013 caused stains, discoloration, foxing as well as embedding dust and dirt on the paintings. Besides the examination of the technology and condition of the paintings the conservation is focused on cleaning. Possibilities and methods of cleaning acrylic surfaces and ethical issues are discussed. An exemplary treatment is carried out on the most damaged painting, „the cyclist“. |
