Zusammenfassung: In the present thesis, the possibility of pre-stabilisation by means of nanofibrillated cellulose of mechanically weakened paper with multiple small fragments is examined. It is assessed, whether nanocellulose can provide enough mechanical stability in order to withstand a leaf casting treatment and lining with Japanese tissue paper without displacement of fragments and thus reintegrating them into a homogeneous sheet. Based on the results of a visual-haptic examination as well as a literature assessment, a systematic catalogue of criteria for the description of paper was created and tested through application. By comparison of the examination results before and after conservation treatment, conclusions in terms of changes in paper properties were drawn and a qualitative assessment of the treatment could be carried out. The developed treatment procedure has been adapted after a trial series with test papers and was then transferred to the treatment of two moisture-damaged papers from an object belonging to the Brandenburgisches Landeshauptarchiv. The test results show, that a pre-stabilisation with nanocellulose can avoid loss of original substance and displacement of fragments. However, irregularities in thickness may occur within the leaf casted stabilisation paper, the cause of which could be examined in a future test series. Pre-stabilisation with nanocellulose poses a promising approach to stabilisation of papers with strong degradation of mechanical strength.
